We’re calling for the Scottish Government to scrap peak rail fares permanently when the current pilot ends this spring.
We’ve joined rail unions and environmental groups to urge the Scottish Government to maintain off-peak rail fares for good.
A letter was sent to the Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop MSP ahead of the Net Zero Committee’s meeting on transport tomorrow (19 March).
Director Colin Howden highlights how reinstating peak rail fares contradicts the Government’s target to cut car traffic:
“There is no peak pricing for car users so it’s perverse for rail passengers to be penalised in this fashion.
“We’re only going to get people out of their cars and on to public transport if the latter is more cost-effective.
“So we’re happy to join the rail unions in calling for ScotRail’s peak fares to be scrapped permanently.”
