Welcome for Reston’s restoration to Scottish rail network

26 May 2022

Transform Scotland has welcomed the new addition to the Scottish rail network: the reopening of Reston Station.

Transform’s rail spokesperson Paul Tetlaw, who visited the new station on its opening day courtesy of Transpennine Express, said:

“Monday was a memorable day for the village of Reston and it’s surrounding catchment area. Not since the 1960s have people in the area been able to catch a train from Reston on the East Coast Main Line.

“All that changed as locals headed to the station to catch trains north to Edinburgh and south towards Newcastle. It was particularly pleasing to see all the pupils from the local primary school being taken for a trip on the train to Edinburgh.

“The Scottish Government’s ambitious climate change targets require many more people to choose public transport instead of the car and we must hope that young people such as these help to lead that change in society.”
