ScotRail Peak Fares Scrapped for Good

1 September 2025

Transform Scotland has welcomed the permanent removal of peak rail fares from the ScotRail network.

Transform’s rail policy advisor Paul Tetlaw said:

“The Scottish Government is to be congratulated on the permanent removal of peak time fares from the ScotRail network. No longer will rail travellers be penalised for travelling at peak times when motorists and other road users face no such penalty.

“The simplified fare structure will be much easier to understand. It should also help to boost our town and city centres where direct rail access can help to fight the threat posed by out of town developments.

“Once again Scotland is leading the way, others will surely be watching and may well decide follow.”

Transform, alongside rail unions and environmental groups, had previously called for the Scottish Government to maintain off-peak rail fares for good.
