Walk more and drive less: Our latest campaign

21 October 2024

FacebookTweetEmailLinkedIn

We’re pleased to announce the launch of our “A Wee Walk Works Wonders – Whatever the Weather!” campaign, starting today in Moray and on 28th October in Aberdeenshire.

Following the success of our March campaign—where 1 in 3 people walked more and drove less—we’re continuing to encourage walking for short local journeys.

Walking is not only the cheapest and healthiest mode of transport, but it also benefits your physical and mental health, your wallet, and the environment. As Susan Jeynes, our campaign manager, explains:

“It can be easy to jump in the car for short journeys, particularly when it’s cold. Our campaign aims to encourage people to make these short journeys on foot, whether it’s popping to the corner shop, visiting friends and family, or taking the kids to school.

“Walking can offer a wide range of benefits—not least helping to keep you warm by getting your blood pumping and improving circulation. Even leaving your car at home once a week can make a difference. Because a wee walk works wonders, whatever the weather.”

To further motivate people, we’re offering the chance to win prizes through our challenge. By logging how many journeys you’ve switched from driving to walking, you’ll be entered to win £50 of Loves Local vouchers each week, which can be spent in over 250 local businesses.

The challenge is being run in partnership with Living Streets Scotland, which also runs the WOW programme in local schools to encourage children to walk to school.

For more information, visit aweewalk.scot.

The campaign runs for four weeks, with opportunities to get involved and make walking part of your everyday routine.
