October Newsletter — Members’ Profile: A96 ActionPublished 29 October 2020 by Transform Scotland
A96 Action was formed in October 2018 in response to Transport Scotland’s proposals to create a “new A96” to the north of Inverurie in the East of Huntly to Aberdeen section of the proposed dual carriageway from Aberdeen to Inverness. While the A96 Action Group supports measures that improve road safety, address peak time congestion, and smooth traffic flow, we believe that the current options are disastrous in terms of damage to the environment, destruction of around 2000 acres of prime agricultural land, destruction of areas of historical significance and natural heritage, and unacceptable cost to the tax payer.
We propose a cost-effective online dualling solution through Inverurie. This solution does not involve any demolition of properties and is the least environmentally damaging option.
